My research interests are in databases, data mining, bioinformatics and especially intersections between those areas.

Databases

During my time at IBM Almaden Research Center my focus was on privacy-preserving query processing techniques in distributed and mobile systems.

The topic of my PhD thesis work was similarity search in structured data. The application areas for this work were in bioinformatics and context-based image retrieval.

For my master thesis I worked on an index strucuture for high-dimensional data.

Data Mining

In this field, I'm currently working on text-mining for webmarketing.

At HIIT I concentrated on finding new structures in a large phenotype database.

Earlier work included work support for efficient clustering methods.

Bioinformatics

Most recently, I worked on cluster analysis of Microarray data.

Earlier work includes work on function prediction of proteins, protein docking search and the error tolerance of the genetic code.
